Test Procedures

The operating procedure for a conveyor belt flammability and flame spread characteristics tester (such as a flame retardant performance tester for underground coal mine conveyor belts) is briefly summarized as follows:

Sample Preparation: Cut test specimens according to the standard (e.g., MT 113-1995), usually requiring 6 specimens for testing.

Equipment Check: Ensure that core equipment such as the combustion test chamber, blowtorch (alcohol blowtorch or alcohol lamp), and stopwatch are in good working order, and check that the gas supply system (e.g., propane or methane) is properly connected.

Parameter Setting: Set the flame spread length, burning time, and other judgment parameters according to the test standard (e.g., alcohol blowtorch test or alcohol lamp test). For example, in the alcohol blowtorch test, the arithmetic mean of the flaming combustion time of the 6 specimens shall not exceed 3s, and the single value shall not exceed 10s; the flame spread length shall not be greater than 280mm.

Place the test specimen vertically or horizontally in the combustion test chamber.

Ignite the blowtorch or alcohol lamp and conduct the combustion test on the specimen.

Use a stopwatch to record the flaming combustion time and non-flaming combustion time of the specimen.

Measure and record the flame spread length of the specimen (i.e., the length of the carbonized part of the specimen).

Data Analysis:

Calculate the arithmetic mean of the flaming combustion time and non-flaming combustion time of the 6 specimens.

Compare the test results with the standard requirements to determine whether the specimen is qualified.

If there are unqualified samples in the first test, retesting with double the number of specimens is required. If it is still unqualified, the test is considered a failure.
