Product Introduction:
The primary function of a Mask Filtration Efficiency Tester is to quantify the percentage of particles that a mask material or a complete mask assembly can remove from an air stream passing through it. This is commonly referred to as Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE).
The testing process involves generating a controlled challenge aerosol – a stream of air containing particles of a specific size (or range of sizes) and concentration. This aerosol stream is directed towards a specimen of the mask material or a whole mask mounted in a leak-tight holder. High-precision particle detection instruments, such as condensation particle counters (CPCs) or optical particle counters (OPCs), are used to measure the concentration of these challenge particles in the air stream before it passes through the mask (upstream) and after it has passed through the mask (downstream).
The instrument is used in laboratories for:
Determining the Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) of mask materials and finished masks.
Validating mask performance against regulatory requirements and product specifications.
Quality control during the manufacturing of masks and filter media.
Research and development of new mask materials and designs with improved filtration capabilities.
Testing masks for medical, industrial, and personal protective use.
Assessing the pressure drop (breathability) of masks.
Product Advantages:
Provides objective, quantitative measurement of mask filtration efficiency against specified particles.
Essential for validating mask protective capabilities and ensuring user safety.
Helps ensure compliance with relevant international and national filtration standards (e.g., for medical masks, respirators).
Crucial for quality control and performance verification in mask manufacturing.
Allows for testing with different types and sizes of challenge aerosols according to standards.
Measures pressure drop simultaneously to assess breathability.
Supports research and development of high-performance mask materials.
