The 45° flammability tester consists of a control system and a combustion chamber. The sample is mounted on a sample holder in the combustion chamber at a 45° angle. The burner is positioned close to the sample, and the sample is ignited with a flame for a specified time before the burner is withdrawn. The burning behavior of the sample and the flame spread rate on the sample are observed to evaluate the ignitability and flame propagation performance of the sample.

a. Remove a sample holder containing a prepared sample from the desiccator and place it on the sample holder inside the testing apparatus. Thread the marker line through the guide hook on the sample holder plate, and then hang a weight on the marker line just below the guide loop to keep it taut.
b. Close the test chamber door. Set the timer to zero, press the start button, and the timer will begin counting, allowing the flame to contact the sample surface for 1 second. When the flame burns through the marker line attached to the upper part of the sample, the weight will fall due to the line breaking, and the timer will stop. Accurately record the burning time shown on the timer. The time from removing the sample from the desiccator to igniting the sample should not exceed 45 seconds.
c. During the test, observe the burning condition of the sample. If the burning is incomplete, observe the back of the sample for any signs of charring or melting.
Under specified conditions, the sample is placed at an Angle of 45 degrees, the sample is ignited for 1s, and the time required for the sample to burn upward with flame for a certain distance is used as a measure to evaluate the intensity of the textile combustion. The fabric with surface flapping is used as an additional indicator for the intensity of combustion.
