The AT-173 Transmission Meter is a portable, battery-powered instrument designed for measuring the light transmittance of transparent and translucent parallel-plane samples. Typical test objects include automotive glass, aerospace transparent components, glass products, plastic sheets, and films.

The instrument can also be used to evaluate the turbidity or clarity of liquid samples such as water, beverages, and other transparent liquids.

The measurement principle is based on the ratio of transmitted luminous flux to incident luminous flux through the test sample.

Test Procedures

(1) Prepare the instrument and press the Power/Select key to turn on the device.

(2) Press the Power/Select key to select the required measurement mode. Each press switches the mode in the following sequence:

  • Visible light transmittance

  • UV transmittance

  • IR transmittance

  • Tri-light cycle mode

(3) After power-off and restart, the instrument automatically resumes the last selected measurement mode.

(4) Confirm that calibration is correct before measurement. If there is any doubt about accuracy, perform calibration again according to the calibration procedure. Calibration results are automatically stored.

(5) Clamp the instrument onto the sample to be measured. The displayed value corresponds to the transmittance under the selected measurement mode.

(6) After measurement, press the Power key until “OFF” appears to turn off the instrument.

Note: Due to the photoelectric measurement principle, avoid operating the instrument under strong ambient light.

Maintenance

(1) Keep the optical window clean; wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth.

(2) Remove batteries when the instrument is not used for an extended period.

(3) Store the instrument in the carrying case to prevent dust and mechanical damage.

(4) Avoid exposure to strong light, high humidity, or corrosive environments.

(5) Periodically verify calibration using reference samples if available.
