Customer Case | Application of Automatic Bursting Strength Tester

The customer is a material testing laboratory serving textile and packaging manufacturers. Its testing scope includes woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens, paper, paperboard, and flexible packaging materials. Due to increasing demands from international clients, the laboratory must ensure that test results comply with multiple international standards, including ASTM, ISO, EN, GB, and JIS.

To support daily testing and third-party reporting, the customer required a bursting strength testing system capable of delivering stable, repeatable results across different materials and test areas, while also improving testing efficiency and data traceability.

Testing Challenges

Before adopting the new system, the customer faced several challenges:

(1) A wide variety of materials requiring different test areas and standard methods, making conventional equipment difficult to adapt;

(2) High sample throughput, creating pressure on testing efficiency and operator workload;

(3) Limited data processing capabilities, with test results mainly recorded manually;

(4) The need for detailed test parameters beyond burst strength alone to support quality analysis and reporting.

Solution

To address these requirements, the customer introduced the Automatic Bursting Strength Tester with hydraulic diaphragm bursting technology.

The instrument supports all standard-required test areas, including a maximum test area of 100 cm² in compliance with GB standards, allowing one system to cover multiple international test methods. A pneumatic clamping system ensures uniform and stable specimen fixation, suitable for textiles, paper, and packaging materials of varying thickness and structure.

An intelligent control algorithm precisely controls the bursting process and time. Both manual and automatic test modes are available, enabling flexible operation depending on testing needs. The system is equipped with PC-based control software for data acquisition, statistical analysis, and report printing.

Application Process

The tester is now used in the customer’s laboratory for:

(1) Routine quality control testing of textile fabrics and nonwoven materials;

(2) Bursting strength evaluation of paper, paperboard, and corrugated packaging materials;

(3) Comparative testing of different material structures and formulations;

(4) Generation of standardized test reports for internal quality management and external clients.

During testing, the system records multiple parameters, including bursting strength, bursting force, diaphragm pressure, bursting height, and bursting time, providing comprehensive insight into material performance.

Application Results

After implementation, the customer achieved the following outcomes:
