Meet the standard:

ASTM F963

EN 71-1

ISO 8124-1

Product Introduction:

Certain points on toys, if excessively sharp, can cause injuries. Safety standards define criteria for what constitutes a hazardous sharp tip. A Sharp Tip Tester provides a repeatable and objective method to apply these criteria to a point on a toy or product.

The tester typically consists of a body or handle with a weighted cap at one end. The cap has a circular sensing opening of a precisely defined diameter. Inside the cap, there is a sensing probe or indicator that is positioned at a specific depth relative to the plane of the sensing opening. To perform a test, the cap of the tester is placed over the point being evaluated, ensuring that the point is centered within the sensing opening. A force is applied to the tester (usually by the weight of the tester itself, possibly with additional weights or a spring mechanism) onto the point. If the point is sharp enough to penetrate the sensing opening and contact or push the sensing probe to a designated position, the tester provides an indication (e.g., the probe becomes visible, a line aligns).

If the point penetrates to the specified depth under the applied force, it is considered a "sharp tip" according to the relevant safety standard. If it does not penetrate to this depth, it passes the sharp tip requirement of the standard. The tester is a go/no-go gauge for point sharpness based on the defined criteria in the safety standards.

The instrument is used in laboratories and manufacturing facilities for:

Evaluating the sharpness of points on toys and their components during product development and manufacturing.

Quality control to ensure that production toys do not have hazardous sharp tips.

Compliance testing to verify that toys meet national and international safety standards for point sharpness.

Assessing the sharpness of points on other consumer products where safety is a concern.

Product Advantages:

Provides an objective and standardized method for assessing the sharpness of points.

Essential for ensuring toy safety and preventing puncture or laceration injuries.

Helps verify compliance with international toy safety standards (ASTM F963. EN 71-1).

Simple and easy to use, requiring minimal training.

Portable and can be used to test points on different parts of a product.

Offers a clear pass/fail indication based on defined safety criteria.

Product Features:

Based on typical Sharp Tip Testers used for toy safety:

Body or handle for holding and applying force to the tester.

Weighted cap containing the sensing mechanism and the standardized opening.

Circular sensing opening with a precisely defined diameter according to the applicable standard.

Internal sensing probe or indicator that moves or becomes visible when the point penetrates the opening to a specified depth.

Mechanism to apply a defined force onto the point, typically the weight of the tester itself, calibrated according to the standard's requirements.

Durable construction materials suitable for laboratory or factory use.

(Optional) Provision for adding calibration weights to adjust the applied force if required by the standard or for calibration checks.
