Accessories

The typical accessories for this tester include:

(1)Oil Heating Tank / Bath – Heats the insulating oil to the required high temperature.

(2)High Voltage Electrodes – Usually plate-to-plate or sphere-to-sphere configuration for dielectric testing.

(3)Temperature Controller – Digital or analog controller to regulate oil temperature precisely.

(4)High Voltage Generator – Provides controlled AC or DC voltage for dielectric breakdown testing.

(5)Safety Guard / Cover – Transparent shield to prevent oil splash or accidental contact with high voltage.

(6)Thermometer / Thermocouple – Measures oil temperature accurately.

(7)Test Sample Holder / Cell – Holds insulating oil and positions electrodes properly.

(8)Voltage & Current Meters – Monitors applied voltage and leakage current during testing.

(9)Alarm System / Emergency Stop – Ensures operator safety in case of overvoltage or equipment failure.

(10)Calibration Accessories – Standard gap spacers, reference oils for calibration verification.

Test Procedures

The general procedure for high-temperature dielectric strength testing of insulating oil is as follows:

(1) Preparation

Clean and dry all electrodes, glassware, and test containers.

Fill the oil bath with the insulating oil to the specified level.

Ensure electrodes are properly positioned with the standard gap.

Verify all connections, safety covers, and emergency stops.

(2)Oil Heating

Turn on the oil heater and set the desired temperature via the temperature controller.

Wait until the oil reaches the required temperature (commonly 70–100°C for high-temperature tests).

Stir or circulate the oil if needed to ensure uniform temperature distribution.

(3) Setting the Test Parameters

Set voltage ramp rate (e.g., kV/s).

Confirm electrode gap spacing according to the standard (usually 2.5 mm for plate electrodes).

Prepare multiple oil samples if multiple breakdown measurements are required.

(4)Conducting the Test

Slowly apply high voltage until dielectric breakdown occurs (visible spark or current surge).

Record the breakdown voltage.

Repeat for at least 5–10 samples to calculate average dielectric strength.

(5)Cooling and Safety

Turn off the high voltage generator immediately after each test.

Allow oil to cool or replace with fresh oil for the next test.

Inspect electrodes and oil for contamination or carbonization.

(6) Data Analysis

Calculate dielectric strength in kV/mm.

Compare against standard requirements for insulation or IEC/ASTM guidelines.

FAQ

1. What is this product?

The High Temperature Dielectric Strength Oil Heated Tester is a specialized laboratory device designed to evaluate the electrical insulating performance of transformer oil, lubricating oil, and other dielectric fluids at elevated temperatures.

2. What is this product used for?

This tester is primarily used to:

Assess the dielectric breakdown strength of insulating oils at high temperatures.

Evaluate the insulating properties of transformer oil, lubricants, or synthetic dielectric fluids.

Ensure that oils meet international and industrial standards for electrical insulation performance.

Support quality control, R&D, and acceptance testing of dielectric fluids.

3. How does this product work?

The insulating oil is placed in a test cell equipped with high-voltage electrodes.

The oil is heated to a target temperature using a temperature-controlled oil bath.

High voltage is applied gradually across the electrodes until dielectric breakdown occurs.

The breakdown voltage is recorded and used to calculate the oil’s dielectric strength (typically in kV/mm).

Multiple samples may be tested to ensure accuracy and repeatability, with results compared against standards like IEC 60156 or ASTM D1816.

4. Why is this product important?

Ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment such as transformers and high-voltage machinery.

Identifies oils that may fail under high-temperature or high-voltage conditions, preventing equipment damage.

Supports quality control and R&D, helping manufacturers develop better dielectric fluids.

Enables compliance with international standards, which is critical for global markets and electrical safety regulations.

5. Which industries is this product suitable for?

Power & Energy: Transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear oil testing.

Electrical Equipment Manufacturing: Quality control for insulating oils in high-voltage devices.

Petrochemical & Lubricant Industry: Testing insulating oils, synthetic fluids, and dielectric lubricants.
