Product Introduction:

Filter cartridges and their housings in hydraulic and lubrication systems are often subjected to dynamic stresses like pressure pulsations caused by pumps or valve operations, or cyclic flow variations. These repeated stresses can lead to fatigue failure over time, even if the component can withstand the maximum static pressure. A Cartridge Dynamic Cycle Tester is used to simulate these conditions in a controlled laboratory environment.

The test typically involves installing the filter cartridge (or housing) into a test circuit containing a test fluid, usually hydraulic oil. A high-speed cycling mechanism, such as rapidly acting valves or a servo-hydraulic system, is used to generate repeated cycles of pressure (pulsating pressure test) or flow through the filter at a specified frequency and waveform. The test is run for a predetermined number of cycles, often millions, or until a failure is detected. Failure modes can include rupture of the filter media, separation of end caps or seams, or cracking of the housing.

Throughout the test, key parameters such as the minimum and maximum cyclic pressure levels, cycling frequency, flow rate, and test fluid temperature are precisely controlled and monitored. A failure detection system, often based on monitoring changes in pressure or flow rate across the filter, automatically stops the test when failure occurs, and the number of cycles to failure is recorded as the fatigue life. This data is crucial for validating filter designs, predicting service life in dynamic applications, and ensuring the reliability of filtration components in demanding environments.

The instrument is used for:

Determining the flow fatigue life of filter cartridges according to standards like ISO 3724.

Evaluating the structural durability and fatigue resistance of filter housings under cyclic pressure.

Validating filter designs for applications with significant pressure pulsation or cyclic flow.

Identifying failure modes related to dynamic stress.

Benchmarking the fatigue performance of different filter media, designs, and manufacturers.

Quality control during the manufacturing of filters intended for dynamic applications.

Research and development of filter materials and structures with improved fatigue resistance.

Product Advantages:

Provides a realistic evaluation of filter cartridge or housing durability under dynamic operating conditions.

Essential for predicting the service life of filters in hydraulic systems with pressure pulsation or cyclic flow.

Helps determine the fatigue life and identify failure modes caused by repeated stress cycles.

Standard compliant test methods (ISO 3724 is a key standard for flow fatigue).

Allows for precise control and monitoring of cyclic pressure, flow, frequency, and temperature.

Crucial for validating filter designs for demanding applications and ensuring reliability.

Supports research and development of more fatigue-resistant filtration solutions.
