Multiple test methods for foil pull test

As we all know, plastic film is one of the important flexible packaging materials. In high-molecular polymers, the arrangement of macromolecular chains, segments or crystallites is disordered and anisotropic without external force. When subjected to external forces such as tensile stress, the macromolecular chains, segments or crystallites are arranged in an ordered manner along the direction of the external force, resulting in different levels of orientation and forming an oriented structure. However, after orientation, the polymer appears anisotropic due to the difference in force between atoms in the orientation direction and the non-oriented direction, resulting in the properties of the material in the orientation direction, such as modulus, strength, and refractive index, being significantly different than before orientation . Therefore, for the finished film, due to the different degrees of longitudinal and transverseerorientation represents a quite different result of the tensile test. Today we present the tensile test on several plastic foils.

This experiment was exposed to the environmental conditions according to the National Standard for Adjusting and Testing the Shape of Plastic Specimens for 4 to 8 hours, and the test was carried out with a 0.5 degree tensile testing machine manufactured by became our company and according to the corresponding data curve gets its different characteristics.

1. BOPP film
The BOPP film tensile test uses the cutting method to prepare the sample. (15 ± 0.1)mm long strip, the distance between the clamps is 100mm, the test speed is (250 ± 25)mm/min, conduct longitudinal and transverse tensile tests respectively, and draw the tensile curve as shown in Figure 1.

It can be seen from Figure 1 that the shape of the longitudinal and transverse stretching curves of BOPP film is quite different. The MD curve is relatively smooth, the tensile force value is large, and the elongation is rigid; the TD curve has an inflection point of extension, and the curve before and after the inflection point is linear and straight.

2. CPP Film
The CPP film sample assumes a strip shape with a length of 150mm and a width of 15mm, the gauge length is 50mm, and the testing speed is (500±50)mm/min . Carry out the longitudinal and transverse tensile tests respectively and draw the tensile curve as shown in Figure 2.

The longitudinal and transverse tensile curves of CPP films are shaped similarly, the initial tensile force increases rapidly and the slopethe curve is relatively large clear change in length increase, the curve is wavy and rugged, and then expands when stretched. The tensile force of the long rising film linearly decreases, showing the phenomenon of stretch hardening.

3. LDPE film
The LDPE film sample is Type 2 sample, the width is 10mm, the clamping distance is 50mm, and the test speed is (500±50)mm/min is between longitudinal and distinguish between transverse pull tests. Figure 3 shows the tensile strength curves of the most commonly used LDPE films.

It can be seen from Figure 3 that the MD curve is similar to the tensile curve of the CPP film, the initial tensile force of the TD curve increases rapidly up to the inflection point of the yield point and then decreases with the increase in the Strain Elongation It's slow but theCurve is smooth and stretching force fluctuates.

4. BOPET film
The BOPET film sample adopts Type 2 sample, a strip shape with a length of 150mm and a width of (15±0.1)mm, and the distance between the clamps is 100 mm, the test speed is (100±10)mm/min, perform the longitudinal and transverse tensile tests respectively and draw the tensile curve as shown in Figure 4.

It can be seen from Figure 4 that the shape and value of the longitudinal and transverse curves of the BOPET film are similar and the initial tensile force increases rapidly up to to a clear inflection point, and then the tensile force decreases linearly with the increase in tensile elongation; the curve shape is smooth and straight, showing fluctuations in tensile force, indicating that the material performance is relatively balanced. kAxTextile Testing Instruments, Testing Equipment Manufacturer
